One of things that hold us back is what almost happened before. We live in fear of the near misses, close calls, almost happened situations as if they actually occurred. We worry that it is just a matter of time before “it” or “them” really get us. The close call made us feel way too vulnerable, way too exposed, way too much at risk. Now we are living life waiting for the other shoe to drop even though the “would haves” never happened.
Look at Psalm 124:
The psalmist gives praise to God for being on their side. He goes on to talk about all the “would haves” that weren’t: being swallowed by enemies and being overwhelmed by a flood (vv.3-5). He then praises God because they escaped what “would have” destroyed them.
The good news is that if you are reading this post, YOU have escaped. It did not destroy you! So quit living in the land of the “would have’s” and what “was” and embrace verse 8: “Our help IS in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Whatever today brings, you have some right now help. No more “would have’s” for you, move forward in all that can be!
